Jeeta Kaur Sahota is the founder of The RAIN Sangha and co-founder of The Guest House. These drop-in meditation groups focus on RAIN and on creative practices to develop self-awareness and equanimity. She also provides private mindfulness sessions.
A graduate of the two-year Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Training Program with Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach, Jeeta also is a teacher in the online Monday-Friday Covidian Sangha.
Raised in Vancouver, BC by her Sikh parents, she grew up steeped in both Eastern and Western values and is fluent in English and Punjabi. She holds a BSC in Nursing from the University of British Columbia and is a certified RN whose work has focused on promoting physiological, mental, and behavioral health for teens and adults. A mother of two teenage children, Jeeta credits her mindfulness practice with transforming how she shows up both as a mother and community member.
Jeeta is a facilitator for The Community of Mindful Parenting, six-week online mindful and self-compassion programs for parents, has taught mindfulness and chair yoga to teens, and started teen mindfulness camps in her hometown of Sammamish WA.
She has trained with David Treleaven in Trauma Sensitive Mindfulness, ongoing student of Marshall Rosenberg’s Nonviolent Communication, and taken a number of courses in Mindful Self Compassion at University of Washington’s Center for Child and Family Well-Being.
Jeeta’s regular mindfulness practice, cultivated over the past seven years, has helped her develop compassion for herself and others, allowed her to loosen the grip of limiting beliefs that have held her back, and focused her attention on healing reactive patterns.
The RAIN Sangha meets weekly to specifically turn towards one's own difficulties in life. I guide a specific meditation called RAIN.
RAIN is an acronym to help remember a skillful way to turn towards your difficulty with mindfulness and compassion.
R is Recognize the difficult situation, emotion or behavior that you feel 'stuck' with.
A is to allow or accept that feelings and or body sensations that arise while recognizing the difficult situation.
I is to Investigate the felt sense of the experience. It helps in the healing process as insights or a different perspective may arise with loving awareness.
N is to Nurture your experience with mindful self-compassion.
Before practicing RAIN, I guide a grounding meditation and a short gentle movement to practice somatic sensing. I also include a short talk regarding a specific topic that relates to RAIN. These practices help step into our day's RAIN practice. This time is important to build inner self-care and resilience. After the RAIN practice, journaling or movement is encouraged to help release the experience. Then the Sangha is opened to sharing within the community group. This time is empowering and eye opening as you learn your experience is shared with many others and you are not alone. Everyone is welcome and my heart opens to your heart.
